The meeting began with a
presentation from Jim Whorton, of American Asphalt Company. Randall
invited him to survey our runway’s condition and propose any
maintenance. Jim offered some
options, and after a good exchange of questions and answers, the members
present generally agreed that we need to hire Jim to create a bottom to
the larger cracks with backer rod, and then fill them. The
seal coat that he applied a few years ago has some life left.
Any more extensive repairs at this time will not really extend the
life of the runway. We
currently agree that sensible maintenance as needed is a better investment
than a full overlay until the runway becomes much worse than it is. Jim
may also roll the runway to squeeze and mold the asphalt back together. Randall
was voted permission to get bids from Jim and order the repairs as needed.
Next Randall announced that
he has been in discussion with
Cliff Magee
about our corporation papers, and Cliff has agreed to help us update the
papers.

An update on the
Introductory Pilot Program revealed that
Jerald Summers
,
Chad Gillis
, Doug Bromley,
Mike Manring
,
Chris Raymer
, Randall Blackwood, and Tim Davie have been registered with the AMA as
instructors who can teach a non-AMA rookie for thirty days with full
insurance coverage. This
program is optional and other members may continue to help new members
learn to fly as usual, but they will not be insured.
Tim Davie gave another summary of the 2005 budget
followed by projections for 2006. The
new dues structure will enable us to have a modest surplus assuming no new
capital expenses. The
discussion revealed a need to communicate more clearly with our

contracted mowing service to insure that we are
paying only for services that we really need. Randall
will assign someone the duty of requesting mowing as needed, and we hope
to save on brush hogging by using the services of TGD member,
Scott Matson
.
In the monthly Jumbo report,
Tim announced that his wife, Anne, is attempting to organize member’s
wives, to run the concessions. Tim
also confirmed that Greg Ward, from
Oklahoma City
, will provide an extensive sound system for our event.
