MINUTES MARCH 27, 2007

TULSA GLUE DOBBERS MONTHLY MEETING

Meeting opened at 7:00 pm by President Randall Blackwood.  Nineteen members present.

Minutes of the February 28 meeting were approved as read.

Old Business:

Chad Duncan confirmed that the proposed concrete pad in front of the existing covered shelter can be done within the $2500 budget and that a contract has been let.  Weather permitting, excavation and pour will take place on Tuesday April 3, followed by expansion joint sawing on Wednesday April 4.  Measurements will be 60’ x 15’; no re-bar or wire mesh will be used; concrete will be fiberglass reinforced.  The field will be closed when workers are present.  Tim Davie will arrange to pay the contractor upon completion and acceptance of the work.

Chad Duncan also advised that several survey/positioning stakes are starting to protrude through the runway, causing the asphalt to buckle and crack, as well as creating a hazard to airplanes using the runway.  He has contacted an asphalt contractor who has bid $3700 to repair those areas as well as seal cracks and lay down a sealer.  An area around each stake will be saw cut and the stakes removed; the hole will be patched and sealed.  It is estimated that this work will extend the life of the runway by 3-5 years.  A motion was made and accepted to have this work done; completion well in advance of the 2007 Jumbo.

It was also noted that to preserve the runway edges and prevent grass intrusion into and under the runway that we need to kill an area approximately one foot around all asphalt edges.  Chad Duncan will purchase the grass killer and arrange for it to be applied prior to the above mentioned runway repair.  Estimated cost of the grass killer is $125.00  TGD will reimburse Chad.

Randall circulated the flyer for the May 14 Fly-and-Buy.  Tim circulated the flyer for the 2007 Jumbo.  Both will be available for viewing on our web site.

New Business:

It was noted that Chuck Misner has advised us that he has decided to not purchase the mowing equipment previously discussed and therefore, will not be available to provide mowing service this year.

Randall advised that his son and one of his friends were interested in mowing the “public” areas.  He has a Gravely 44 which should be sufficient for this purpose.  Randall will also get bids from other established services.  Chad Duncan again has offered to do the necessary bush hogging.

Grant Wilson proposed to build a sun shelter over the bleachers using 2” PVC pipe and “canvas” top.  He estimates the total cost to be $350-$400.  The PVC pipe will attach to the bleachers and to the fence.  Measurements are approximately 52’ x 12’ x 14’ high at the front.  After considerable discussion a motion was made and approved to allow Grant to proceed.

Jack Rogers advised that he had contacted ABCO Rents for an price estimate for tents to provide shade during the Jumbo.  A 20’ x 20’ x 11’ at the edges costs $175 for a 3-day rental.  Tents can be ganged together for additional length.

Tim Davie reported on the Executive Committee meeting held on March 14 to discuss and do some preliminary planning for the 2007 Jumbo.

Tim also advised that he had secured Mac Hodges from Americus, GA to be our feature pilot for 2007.  Mac has a 21’ wingspan, 100 lb. B-29 from which he launches an X-1 rocket plane, and also does a full flight routine which includes spins, stall turns, rolls, loops, low inverted passes, etc.  Tim showed a video of his routing from an earlier event.

TGD will pay him $500 for gasoline and travel expenses plus his hotel in Tulsa.

Tim and Randall also ran several videos on fire and explosion hazards associated with Li-po batteries.  The videos were produced by the Utah Flyers RC Club (www.utahflyers.org).

Randall advised that he has signed up TGD for the AMA TAG (Take off And Grow) program whereby AMA will select local clubs to promote and advance RC flying.  This program will provide flight simulators and trainer aircraft for use by the local club(s) to use in their promotional efforts.  Local clubs will keep the simulators and trainers following the promotion.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.

Respectfully Submitted

Jack Rogers

Vice-President and Acting Secretary
