Why was the Jumbo Fly-In
such a resounding success? I
believe there are two very important reasons that account for most of it. First
and foremost, is the early, hard work of Tim Davie. Months before the event, Tim
began recruiting sponsors, committee members, and featured pilots to
attract others. He delegated
important promotional and site preparation jobs to reliable individuals,
and then relied on them to follow through. He
even welcomed the help of experienced people from other clubs who offered
to help put the Tulsa Glue Dobbers event back in the national spotlight as
it was many years ago. So it
his outstanding vision, leadership, and energy that made this all happen.
But, if all these people had
arrived, and the actual execution of the duties had been shabby, the event
would have been a miserable flop. This
is where I see the second reason for success come in. In
the previous fifteen or so events I have seen, almost all of the work was
done by about five to ten members. This
year, serious work was provided by thirty or forty members. The
club really functioned as a club for this event. Thank
you to the dozens of volunteers who recognized that something big was
about to happen, and who wanted to be a part of it.
Sincerely,
Doug Bromley

Well, the Heatwave is over
and WOW! What a success. Glue
Dobbers’ provided a great weekend of fun and fellowship that will be
remembered for sometime to come. Flight
demonstrations by Sean McMurtry, Jason Danhakl, Airplane Blaine Austin and
Tulsa
’s own Bill Cunningham were superb!
