The meeting was called to order on January 23, 2007. The November
minutes were read and approved, and the Treasurer’s report declared a
balance of $15,230.
Walt Seifert was introduced as a new member attending the meeting. Walt
has returned to Tulsa to retire after living and working in Los Angeles.
He has built many wonderful models, most of which were catalogued in a
notebook that he shared. One of his custom multi-engine efforts has
been a DC-3 with two props but only one engine chained to each prop.
Walt will bring much experience and creativity to the membership of the
Glue Dobbers.
Randall announced the recent passing of Mal Bongiorno, long time member.
Mal’s model collection is extensive, and the club is offering to arrange
an auction or sale to help Mal’s wife sell off his stuff.
Next, we discussed plans for a fly-n-buy event to kick off the spring
flying season. Saturday, May 12 was approved as the date. Proposed
activities include a couple of fun-fly competitive events, a pylon race
demonstration, and burgers for lunch. We will advertise this event in
Model Aviation. Also, Jack Rogers has compiled an email list of the 150
clubs within 250 miles of Tulsa. We can use this list for announcing
our events to the immediate region.
The next discussion involved expanding the current concrete slab areas
and expansion of sun shaded areas. More specific proposals and costs
are in the works for further discussion.
The question of what to do with frequency clips for users of 2.4 GHz
Spectrum technology was raised. Even though these radios eliminate the
need to reserve a channel, we still need to monitor the current AMA and
TGD membership status of those using our field. It was agreed that, for
now, we will ask Spectrum pilots to display their frequency clips on the
left hand vertical bar of the frequency board. This bar is also
dedicated to Ham frequencies.
Finally, Doug Bromley brought his engine test stand for show and tell.
It is a plywood mock-up of the center section of the Ziroli B-25 that
Doug is building. Mounted on it is a pair of 3W-28’s and all the radio
and electronic ignition auxiliaries that will power the plane.
