    From the President

2007 is going to be a great year for RC flying in spite of the ice and snow we are having right now. This should give us plenty of time to get our new RC projects completed in time for a fly-in in May. I hope to get at least 2 or more Fun Flies scheduled this year, weather and volunteers permitting.

My project this winter is putting together a Jaguar Jet by Bob Parkinson Models. This is a strange way to build a jet. The fuse is a sheet of plastic like what your credit card is made of and you roll and CA glue the seams together. Since I am using a OS 91 engine the plans call for two layers rolled together to strengthen the fuselage do to the high vibration of the engine. At the moment I am not very far along. The main component parts have been cut and fitted together except for the wings. I ordered a set of foam wings that never came so I decided to build the wings from balsa wood (plans supplied) Well, as luck would have it I had to order the wood. I think I can frame up the wings in a couple days since it seems to be very straight forward even though I do have to cut the ribs. Once the wings are finished the plane should go together pretty quick. It looks like the hardest part about this project is installing the retract system and the electronics. I hope to have the plane ready by March.

The next couple meeting at least through May will be held at the Martin Regional Library. The next meetings will be January 23rd and February 26th and some of the topics discussed will be the date and times for Fly-ins, an Auction, flying field condition and what’s new in RC electronics. This year I hope to have more members attending the meetings. Having a Great Flying Club comes from the participation of its members as a whole and not from just a few members.

See you at the Meetings!

Thank you

Randall Blackwood

President
