Randall opened the meeting
with a video of the pylon racing event in Stillwater. He entered with
four other pilots, and found it to be great fun. They are racing
Quickie 500 models like the Blackjack or Dominator with .25 sized
engines on a three pylon course. It appears that more modelers are
planning to join the fun throughout the summer.

Next, Randall reported on
the success of the Fly and Buy event. We fed about sixty people and
priced the menu just right so that we did not lose any money on the
event, while many people enjoyed the shopping and flying opportunities.
John Frownfelter has worked on the clubhouse lock to make it harder to
cut, and Randall also reported that an alarm system will be installed
soon.

An extensive information and promotional video about the Spread Spectrum
technology sold by Horizon was shown. A simple summary is that this 2.4
MHz system is on the market and will be the wave of the future. No
channel security is needed because the radio finds an available
frequency, locks on, and codes to a specific transmitter so that no
other transmitter, even on the same frequency, can interfere. Range and
large gas engines are an unresolved concern, so this technology must
only be used for park flyers and helicopters. The AMA has not approved
them beyond that limited use.
