Minutes of April Club Meeting

Randall called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM and began by asking for new business.  It was announced that long time Glue Dobbers member Hugh Gary passed away week or so prior to the meeting and his funeral was held Friday before the meeting.  Because the funeral was held before the announcement in the newspaper we did not get flowers sent to the funeral, discussions on what the club could do in memory of Hugh ensued. A decision to make a donation to the Diabetes Foundation in Hugh’s name was agreed upon.

Randall then announced that the main gate at the field broke back near the hinge.   Jerald Summers saw to the repairs and the gate is now back in good working condition.  It appeared that the gate suffered from metal fatigue and was not subject to foul play.

Next, Randall announced that the American Asphalt Company went out to the field and took a look our runway and quoted filling and sealing 500 feet of cracks at a price of $675.00.   It was decided at the March meeting that sealing the entire runway was unnecessary and would not prolong the life of the tarmac.  Eventually, we will have to resurface our runway and spending money now would not buy us any time.

Grant and Randall told of the Muskogee for the weekend.  Cliff Magee and Grant flew the B36 twice.  During the last flight a whacking sound began coming from the B36 so Grant landed and found the #3 engine had come loose from the motor mount and kept running.  The prop was half gone and had taken a large chunk out of the leading edge of the wing.  Grant believes motor vibration shook the motor mount hardware loose.

Randall brought up the subject of mowing.  John Kelsey was doing the mowing for $75.00 per week.  John is no longer a member of the club and his prices increased to $50.00 per hour.  Discussions about mowing have concluded we don’t need to mow every week.  The idea is that during the hot dry months of summer we should mow more than twice a month.  Richard Sheldon has stepped up as our new mower.  Richard will charge $100.00 to mow and will stick to the abbreviated mowing schedule.  Also, it was mentioned that Scott Matson would do our brush hogging work latter in the summer.

It was next mentioned that the chairs at the field are falling apart.  It was voted the club spend up to $200.00 on new chairs and we throw away the broken chairs before someone gets hurt.

Randall then brought up the Buy N Fly coming up in May soliciting help cooking hamburgers for lunch during the meet.

Next Randall asked Tim for an update on the Jumbo.  Tim said we were in the AMA magazine and plan to run an additional ad along with the contest calendar for the Heatwave.  The second ad should run in the June and July additions of the AMA magazine.  It was mentioned that there is some concern that the high price for gasoline could limit the turnout of pilots that travel from out of state.  Then the topic moved to volunteers for helping during the Heatwave.  Tim said that help was needed for the lunch concessions even for an hour at a time.  It was noted that if we had enough volunteers no one would have to work more than an hour or so at a time.

The meeting was closed with Angel Vides showing off his new chipmunk purchased on Ebay.  Ultimately Angel was disappointed that the Chipmunk did not have the scale wheel pants.
