Minutes of April Club Meeting

The April meeting of the Tulsa Glue Dobbers was called to order at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 with ten members present.

Old Business:  Randall reported that our club was not one of those selected by the AMA for their "Take Off and Grow" program.  "TOG" is an introductory pilot program in which trainer planes and simulation software is given to a club in exchange for its efforts to hold a flight school for people new to the hobby.  We will probably apply again next year.  The sealing of the runway is finished and looking pretty good.  The concrete slab extension in front of the sun shelter is completed and a welcomed addition.  Chris Blackwood has taken on the duties of mowing our field.  Grant Wilson reported that the PVC frame for a spectator sun shelter has been completed, and now he is seeking the best resource for a fabric cover.  He is investigating the green, breathable windscreen material used on tennis court fences.  Funding was approved by the members present.

New Business:  Randall reported that he has received our annual insurance certificate from the AMA.  It has been submitted to the Tulsa Parks Department (as required by our lease), and our lease has been renewed and paid for through September of 2012.  At that time, it will need to be re-written and approved.  A motion was made, and it was agreed that monthly club meetings will now be moved to the flying field throughout the rest of the warm months.  The Treasurer's report noted a new balance of $10,500.  Doug Bromley reported on his search for options to replace/improve the current temporary safety fence in front of the pilot stations.  It was agreed that two seventy foot long by two feet high sections will be separated by a large entrance opening similar to the current configuration.  It will be built out of white PVC lattice material that comes pre-cut into 2 x 8 foot sections.  It will be supported by t-posts driven flush with the top of the fence, and the top will probably be capped for a good appearance.

Jerry Britch brought his beautiful giant scale P-47 for show and tell.  He has been scratch building this work of art from Ziroli plans for two years, and had just finished the paint job.  He modeled this plane after the 82nd Fighter Squadron including the very complex checker boarded cowl.  The finish was done with water based Varithane and glass cloth, sanded, and then painted with Behr latex exterior house paint.  The result approaches perfection.

Calvin Campbell brought an electric, foam combat plane to show us.  This very inexpensive and quick build setup comes with everything you need to start a combat competition on very short notice.  Maybe someone will join him in this project.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30.
