TULSA GLUE DOBBERS
Member Letter – May 2008
Greetings fellow Dobbers –
Since we won’t have a regular mailing of
this month’s Super Glitch, here are some highlights for you to
digest:
- MAY 24 BUY-N-FLY and PYLON RACE
Don’t forget the
TGD Buy-N-Fly followed by the first in a series of Pylon Races this
Saturday, May 24. Buy-N-Fly starting at 8:00 am and Pylon Racing at
10:00 am. The next scheduled race is June 14 at Glue Dobber Field.
Contact Doug Bromley at
dougbromley@prodigy.net for details of the Pylon Race. Flyer is
also attached.
- MAY 27 MEETING IS AT THE FIELD; 7:00
PM.
No flying during
the meeting. Scott Johnson will let us in on some of his
secrets and techniques for his really cool foamy planes, and will
have some examples of his work. Some really neat stuff that you’ll
want to see and hear about. We’ll keep the meeting short so there’s
plenty of flying time available.
- FIELD CLOSED DURING MOWING
Your Officers have
agreed that for safety reasons the field will be closed to all
flying while mowing and trimming are underway. This probably
won’t be a problem as the mowing people want to start very early to
beat the heat, so they should be finished before anyone shows up to
fly. The field will otherwise be open - just no flying allowed.
The mowing typically will take only a couple of hours, so should you
show up to fly and they are mowing, just settle in and enjoy being
outside. They’ll be finished shortly.
Brush hogging of
the taller grass/weeds is being worked out. The field will be
closed to flying while they are hoggin’ and we’ll try to give
advance notice of when that will happen. Hoggin’ will take a bit
longer than the regular mowing.
4. So far May has been busy but
productive. We’ve had some really nice flying
days and some
really poor flying days, but any day at the field is better than a
day at the office! Right?
On May 3 and 4 TGD
sponsored a Senior Pattern Association’s fly-in.
Dan Quinten
represented the SPA and TGD, and Tim Tipton was the CD.
Ten flyers turned
out for a somewhat windy but good event. There was some
great flying. One
pilot came from Grapevine, TX, two from Oklahoma City,
plus our District
VIII Associate Vice President, Les Barry came over from
Bethany. Come to
the May meeting and find out who won the events.
Then on May 10,
despite the wind and chilly weather, our scheduled Spring Picnic and
Fun Fly turned into a “mini-event”. “Mini” because of the light
turn out – only the manliest of the manly! Dedicated Dobbers and
flyers! Maybe a little light in the head? Anyway, we had 8-10
flyers and picnic-ers, grilled some burgers, wives visited, and we
had a pretty good time. We’ll try to put together another picnic
and fun fly later in the year, and hope for better weather.
5. We have invitations to put on
flying demonstrations at several events and are
looking into the
sites to be sure it is safe to fly. We’ll have more details at the
May meeting.
So, gather up all of your “excess stuff” (is
there such a thing?) and come on out to the Fly-N-Buy and stick
around for the Pylon Races. It’ll be loads of fun! In the mean
time, be safe, have fun and be nice to one another. See ‘ya.
