The meeting
was called to order on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at the new Tulsa Air and
Space Museum on the north edge to Tulsa International. A
vote was taken that amends our constitution so that the position of
Newsletter Editor/Web Administrator is now an elected officer of the club.
It was then announced that the
new Bristow RC Club will be fully chartered on December 1, and that they
would be hosting a fly-in on October 29. Tim
Davie reported that he had contacted Frank Noll Jr. from Futaba
encouraging him to send us a sponsored pilot at next year’s Jumbo
fly-in. Frank replied
expressing an interest in having Futaba represented.
The featured
guest for this meeting was Bill Cunningham. Bill

entertained
with stories of his entry into the hobby with Cliff Magee and Grant
Wilson. Then he told great
stories of his adventures in unlimited RC racing with engine builder Bob
Ayers of A3 Racing. Bill
was part of a fifteen man team that traveled extensively doing unlimited
racing. In the peak of these
events, 100 planes would be at a race. But
since few survived the weekend, the hobby became too expensive to continue
receiving such enthusiastic support. Unlimited
Racing is now nearly dead. Bill
thinks he knows where to retrieve his record setting 238 mph Lancair that
is stored in California. He
hopes to revive it and fly it at next year’s Jumbo.
Other
topics included replacing the aging telephone poles that are used as
parking bumpers in our lot.

Anyone with
helpful solutions should speak up. A
desire to cut more trees was again brought up by those who hate climbing,
and Tony repeated his desire to install a shade cover over the bleachers
for spectators. He was
encouraged to price out some options for consideration. We
started the nominations for 2005 club awards. Tim
Davie was nominated for the Leroy Rogers Fellowship Award. Leon
Dobson and Chuck Misner were nominated for Rookie of The Year. Rex
Benway and Grant Wilson received nominations for The Craftsmanship Award. Other
nominations will be welcomed at the November meeting just before voting.
