The
October meeting of the Tulsa Glue Dobbers was called to order at 7:00 PM
on October 23 at the Martin Regional Library. Minutes of the September
meeting were read and approved. Tim Davie reported that Michael Ramsey
from the “AMA Model Aviation” magazine said that our report of the 2007
Heat Wave in The Heartland will be featured in the “In The Air” section
of the December issue.
Randall Blackwood reported that Ed Culbert had finished a trial brush
hogging of about twelve acres of our flying field, and he reports that
the quality of the grass is not up to par for selling as hay at this
time. He says we may need two more mowings to condition the grass to a
marketable quality at which time he would be willing to mow and bail the
grass for the value of the hay. From then on we would no longer have to
pay for brush hogging. We agreed to invite him back in the spring to
check on the progress of the grass and possibly to brush hog again.
In
other reports, Tim reported that the treasury stands at $10,800 after
paying Ed Culbert. Doug reported on the Muskogee Fly In, and Jack
reported on the club float fly and barbecue event held at his cabin on
Lake Tenkiller. |

Next,
Jerry Summers introduced a special guest, Robert Hunt. Robert is
working with grant money on an OU research project involving R/C
helicopters. He is working with large autonomously piloted, robotic
helicopters in hopes of perfecting them to fly surveillance over
shipping containers stored at large shipyards. It was a fascinating
presentation of the latest in unmanned helicopter surveillance, and we
hope to hear more about his progress.
For
show and tell, Calvin Baze presented two electric foam planes, and Doug
Bromley showed his 101” Ziroli B-25 in its’ current ready to sand, in
the bones stage. Maybe it will fly in another six months or so.
Randall adjourned the meeting at 8:10.
