Minutes of September Club Meeting

The September meeting of the Tulsa Glue Dobbers was held on September 25, 2007 in the Martin Regional Library.  President Randall Blackwood called the meeting to order at 7:00.  The minutes of the August meeting were read and approved.  Then Jack Rogers reported on the plans for a club float fly event on September 29 at Lake Tenkiller followed the next day by the 6th Annual RC Fly-In and Fish Fry at Tenkiller Airpark.  Several members mentioned that they planned to attend one or both events that weekend, and Cliff Magee and Jim Ewers planned to bring their full scale planes as well.

Randall reported that the Broken Arrow Main Street Merchants Craft Fair was attended by Randall, Grant Wilson, and Chris Raymer.  Randall set up a simulator for kids to enjoy while Grant brought his air force for static display.

Guy Shipley announced that he has done a flyover of our field in Jim Ewers light sport plane taking aerial photos to be passed on to webmaster Mike Manring for posting on our club’s website.

In club related AMA news, Tim Davie reported that he has sent an article about the Heat Wave event to our District VIII representative for a report in the AMA national magazine.  We will wait to see if anything comes of it.  Randall announced that the AMA has a “Sign Three, Fly Free” program.  Any member who succeeds in recruiting three new members to the AMA, gets a free AMA membership for themselves.  Also, Randall described the AMA “Leadership Club Award” program.  By meeting certain standards, we can become a bronze, silver, or gold leadership club.

Randall reported that Ed Culbert is interested in brush hogging as much of our land as possible in hopes of prepping it for an eventual haying operation.  We could reach an agreement in which he does the work for the value of the hay, and we get our land mowed for free.  The trial mowing, however, will cost about $400, and members present approved the expenditure.

Finally, the entertainment program for the evening was Tim Davie’s presentation of videos from the full scale National Air Races in Reno.  Glue Dobbers member, Cliff Magee, placed seventh in the jet class with his L-39, achieving speeds around 435 mph.  The meeting adjourned at 8:20.

Club Secretary
