The August
meeting of the Tulsa Glue Dobbers was held at the club field on Tuesday,
August 22, 2006. President Randall Blackwood thanked the Heatwave in The
Heartland committee for all of their work in planning and running
another very successful event. The spectator attendance over the two
days was counted at nearly 2100 people. A discussion ensued about
maintaining the same weekend for next year’s event or moving to a cooler
date. Although no final decision was reached I judged that staying
with the same date seems to be the current preference. We also
initiated discussion about finding a new committee member who would take
on the task of planning and |
|
running an auxiliary event
such as a cookout on the Friday evening before the official start of the
fly-in. Volunteers are welcome.
Other
brief topics included an announcement that Bill McArthur is developing a
pilot training information page for the club’s website to help formalize
our program, and a report that a thank you letter has been sent to Dr.
Guy Baldwin for his T-6 and Extra
flight donations that brought in substantial funds to the treasury.
Next, Doug Bromley did a show and tell of his original design and
scratch built foamy canard that he has been working on. A follow up
show will be presented at the September meeting. |

Finally, Grant Wilson gave a report on his upcoming Reno National Air
Races trip. He is the ground crew for Cliff Magee’s L-39 Albatross jet
that he annually races at Reno. As a follow up, Cliff did very well
this year placing sixth out of ten entries in the jet division. His best
race speed was clocked at 423 mph. Come to the September meeting for
more details from Grant.
The next meeting will be held at the field on Sept 26.
