Letter
from the President
Once again, Spring is upon
us an daylight savings time will be here April 2nd 2:00 am in the morning.
For your information On August
8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This
Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S.
Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday of March and end
the first Sunday of November. The
Secretary of Energy will report the impact of this change to Congress. Congress
retains the right to revert the Daylight Saving Time back to the 2005 time
schedule once the Department of Energy study is complete.
Trainer Night will be
starting up again on Tuesday night with a change as to who can be a
Trainer. AMA has started an
Introductory Pilot Program that we must adhere to in order to protect our
club from liability issues. A
trainee under a Introductory Pilot will be covered by AMA insurance for 30
days from the fist day he starts learning to fly, when 30 days is up he
has to join AMA or quite flying. We
can appoint certain volunteers from the club to be Introductory Pilots and
they must be tested by the Safety Officer John Frownfelter. We
will post on the web the simple flight test that you must pass in order to
become a Introductory Pilot. Current
Pilots that have signed up are
Jerald Summers
, Doug Bromley,
Chris Raymer
, Jack Rogers, Randall Blackwood,
Chad Gillis
, Tim Davie and Michael Manring. We
will definitely need more pilots since not all of us or any of us will be
at the field at any given time. Any
beginner pilot that all ready has his AMA will not be required to be
trained by the Intro Pilots, therefore any pilot that is capable may help
them train. Please contact me
if you are interested in becoming an Introductory Pilot 230-6518.
Items of interest for the
next couple meetings are the Fly-N-Buy, Jumbo and our runway. As
to the runway it is having problems that I think we need to take a hard
look at. I would like all
members to walk out on the runway....of course not while someone is
flying.....and take a look at the large cracks, spidering and areas that
look like they are starting to crumble. Unless
you walk out on the runway it looks fine from a distance. I
talked with Cliff MaGee to get his educated guess as to how long we have
left flying at this current field with the surrounding housing starts and
so forth. Cliff thinks we still have a good 10 to 15 years before loosing
the flying field. I want
everyone to start thinking about saving the runway before it gets too
costly to repair and we have to scrape it off and start over again. I
am getting together some cost as to filling all the cracks, overlaying
petramat and adding asphalt onto the runway. Currently
we have about $15,300 in the kitty, not including what Doug Bromley has
taken in membership dues. Also, we have a year of fixed expenses that come
out of that money, about $6,000 to $7,000 and what is left over is the
amount of money we will have to pave the runway if that is possible. I
am not saying that if we get approval from the club that we can even do it
at this time, but that we will at least have approval and can start saving
and planning to have the runway paved.
We need you at the meeting
so please always plan to be there every month to have your voice heard.
COME JOIN US!
Thank you
Randall Blackwood
