Randall announced that the
2006 AMA club charter packet has arrived and he will be working on
submitting the necessary, annual paperwork. A
new program by the AMA asks that we designate and pay a five dollar fee
for “introductory pilots” who may work with rookie pilots for thirty
days during which time the rookie is insured by the AMA so long as the
introductory pilot is standing next to him while he is learning. The
instructor must keep a log of introductory sessions and submit it to the
AMA on a regular basis. We are
looking for five or six experienced members who would be willing for us to
register them as “introductory pilots.”
Long time TGD member, Gene
Cartwright, passed away in early February. The
club sent flowers and several members attended Gene’s funeral. Don
Keller, from the Turf Flyers, has Gene’s R/C collection, and is trying
to pass it on to those who may be interested.
We discussed the Buy and Fly
event scheduled for May 13. We
agreed to having no landing fee and to provide concessions for purchase.

Tim Davie gave us an update
report on our Jumbo scheduled for July 29th and 30th.
It will be posted in the next
AMA magazine, and a flyer has been created and distributed by email. Printed
copies are in production soon. Frank
Noll Jr., Captain of Team Futaba, will be here along with most of the
featured pilots from last year. Tim
has designated committees that members can sign up for to help at the
event. Tim’s wife, Anne, is
inviting wives to a special meeting to consider taking over the food
concessions. We will have
monster sound systems provided by both Blain Austin and Gary Ward that
will better cover the full length of our flight line.
Grant Wilson reminded us
that past TGD President, Cliff Magee, had defended us in a lawsuit a few
years ago, and is now running for City Council, District Eight. Grant
encouraged several of us to help Cliff by putting out campaign signs in
the District Eight.

It was announced that John
Frownfelter has installed protective plates around the padlocks on the
clubhouse. These will
hopefully make it more difficult to cut the locks.
David Seals announced that
he left his transmitter at the field and had not heard any reports of
someone saving it for him. We
posted his dilemma on the web page and a week after the meeting, the
transmitter was turned in to Model Works. David is very grateful to be
back flying again without unplanned expenses.
The meeting adjourned at
8:45.
